Oxford

Model

Oxford

The most easily recognisable of all classic styles, is the elegant English Oxford. A formal style that dates back over two hundred years, it is thought to have been named by the students at Oxford University, although it is almost certain that the style predates this ‘naming’ further still. The sequence of operations for constructing an Oxford differs to a Derby. The Inside and outside Quarters are stitched underneath the Vamp and the tongue is stitched in separately underneath the Quarters/Vamp/Facing. Often referred to as ‘Closed Lacing’.

Manufacture

Goodyear

The Goodyear construction was conceived and patented in 1839 by Charles Goodyear, the genius who invented English shoes: the strip of leather running around the outside edge of the shoe, called welt, is stitched through and attached to the upper and the insole. Between the insole and outsole is placed a midsole, usually made of cork, which assumes an insulating and comfort function, as a sort of 'cushion' that adapts to the shape of the foot. The result is a shoe of great value and extreme comfort, at the same time ... practically indestructible.

Leather

Box Calf

High grade Calf leather, the box calf is one of the ancient type of leather used in the hight quality shoes. The smooth finish offers a sophisticated appearance. Some scratches may appear due to a very fine aniline finish.

Sole

Dainite rubber

Famous traditional rubber sole made in UK since 1894 made with a high percentage of rubber to improve comfort and durability. Dainite sole is a choice of the most discerning of footwear manufacturers.

Take care

Full grain leather care begins with removing any dirt using a soft cloth, followed by the application of a wax of the right color to nourish and protect the leather. Then rub vigorously with the polishing glove to shine it.
