Oxford

Model

Oxford

The most easily recognisable of all classic styles, is the elegant English Oxford. A formal style that dates back over two hundred years, it is thought to have been named by the students at Oxford University, although it is almost certain that the style predates this ‘naming’ further still. The sequence of operations for constructing an Oxford differs to a Derby. The Inside and outside Quarters are stitched underneath the Vamp and the tongue is stitched in separately underneath the Quarters/Vamp/Facing. Often referred to as ‘Closed Lacing’.

Manufacture

McKay

The american Lyman Reed Blake invented this stitching method in 1856 right in the middle of the Industrial Revolution while he was trying to reduce time and cost of processing for a large-scale production. Gordon McKay, who became the official supplier of the US Army during the Civil War, has later perfected it. In summary, McKay processing method provides, by using a special machine, a single stitching with simple or double thread, which simultaneously combines upper, lining, insole and sole. This stitching process, recognizable from inside seam that runs through the insole, provides to the shoe greater flexibility and lightness.

Calf Full Grain

Full grain leather is, ‘a fine quality material where the leather’s natural pore structure or “grain” is healthy, and is left untouched. This material is tanned with aniline dyes to bring out its natural characteristics and depth of colour when shoes are finisched and polished.

Take care

Full grain leather care begins with removing any dirt using a soft cloth, followed by the application of a wax of the right color to nourish and protect the leather. Then rub vigorously with the polishing glove to shine it.
